In line with the latest Scottish Government advice to Stay at Home we will be reinstating and adding to our set of parental resources for use until we are again able to return to a more normal nursery routine. Activities and challenges can be seen on our COVID Resources tab while our book shelf of stories read aloud by nursery staff and others can be found on the Books read Aloud tab. We will continue to keep you updated with resources and information as we come across them.
Have you spotted any elder trees recently – they have beautiful flowers. What do you think they smell like?
I saw some dragonflies in my pond yesterday and decided I wanted to learn some more about them. This is what I found out.
I found something interesting yesterday that I wanted to show you. A wasp nest is also called a byke. That made me thin about the names we give to different animal homes – I was thinking of a pig living in a sty, a squirrel in a drey and a badger in a sett – can you think of any others?

The next verses are
Then he’ll eat the leaves around him til he’s full (munch munch)
Then he’ll eat the leaves around him til he’s full (munch munch)
Then he’ll eat the leaves around him, eat the leaves around him,
Eat the leaves around him til he’s full (munch munch)
A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)
A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)
A cocoon is what he’s spinning, cocoon is what he’s spinning,
A cocoon is what he’s spinning for his home (spin, spin)
Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)
Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)
Then he’ll be a butterfly, be a butterfly,
Then he’ll be a butterfly and fly away (flap, flap)
Another challenge for you! How much rain is there where you live?
Yesterday I saw a gaggle of geese (and some goslings), a herd of cows and a flock of sheep. Can you think of any other names for groups of birds or animals?
If you listened to our story, Some Smug Slug, or even if you didn’t, you might like to try this challenge 😊
