Our setting is led and managed by Jane Bain who has many years experience of managing community playgroups. Jane graduated from the University of the Highlands and Islands with a BA (Hons) in Childhood Practice and in Sept 2017 she was appointed Lead Practitioner and Manager at Cambusbarron Playgroup. Jane has been key player in the transition of our service from its playgroup origin to the current Community Interest Company. Jane is Forest Kindergarten trained and has developed a particular interest in outdoor play and learning and is passionate about its significant benefits, not only for children but also for staff. Her passion for outdoor learning has led to the development of our extremely popular Woodland Play Sessions where she is keen to ensure that children get the right opportuntities to learn in their local environment. Jane is currently completing her Forest Leader qualification. She has also recently completed her Outdoor First Aid training.
The playgroup ethos is one which resonates strongly with Jane’s pedagogy which has a strong belief in the importance of community and which aims to provide children with the appropriate opportunties to lead their own learning and also to develop skills which will not just serve them in school but also in life.
Jane is experienced in using Makaton as a means to aid and enhance communication. She has completed the Enhancement course in Makaton for professionals and is always working towards increasing exposure and interest to Makaton within the nursery setting and indeed, more widely.
Outside of nursery Jane’s family includes 4 grown up sons, a dog, a cat and several hens. The dog, a flat coated retriever bitch, is “home grown” and Jane is registered with the Kennel Club as an Assured Breeder of flatcoated retrievers. Jane loves to spend time outdoors, walking her dog, gardening and cycling. She is a keen cook, baker and crafter especially enjoying knitting, patchwork and more recently, spoon making.
