Tree Planting

Today we were helping to plant trees in the woods. Angus showed us what we needed to do to make sure the trees have the best chance of growing up to be big, strong trees. Today we planted wild cherry trees and some silver birch.
We hammered in stakes beside the trees and covered them with a tree guard to keep them safe from nibbling mice, rabbits and deer.
We put our names on the tree guards and will be able to go and visit our trees and see how much they have grown.

Planting trees is the first task we need to do to complete our Junior Forester award. Only 5 more to go!

First Aid Training

We are proud to say that both Jordan and Katie completed their Outdoor First Aid training course with the First Aid Training Cooperative this weekend. They are now prepared for all eventualities although hopefully it’s never needed 🤞🏻

The Sock Lady

We are delighted that our very talented friend Ginnie (AKA The Sock Lady) has decided to make CVN her Sock Cause for 2024. Ginnie is an amazing knitter (among other things) and over the last few years has donated the money raised from the sale of her hand knitted socks to a variety of good causes. Last year Ginnie raised over £800 for her chosen cause and has challenged herself to beat that this year.

Ginnie doesn’t take any money for the yarn or her time so all the proceeds will come directly to CVN. As a guide the average donation is £20.

Here are some of the socks we have available for sale just now but, if there is a specific colour or size you would like, Ginnie will also take orders. Email Jane@CambusbarronVillageNursery.com with details.

Donations can be made via our PayPal link – please use Friends and Family to avoid charges.

Update – January 2024

We are pleased to report steady progress towards developing the next phase of our plans to move our nursery service to the woods. During this interim phase we plan to build a shed which will serve as a shelter and storage area and will support our children’s play and learning in the woodland.

This week we met with members of the Cambusbarron Community Development Trust board of trustees and agreed a rough position for our shelter. Have a look at this (very amateur) drone footage showing the identified location (adjacent to the Walled Garden). The taped area is very approximately the size of the proposed shelter (about 7mx5m).

Our architects are working on our planning application and we intend to submit this in the next few weeks.

We will be at the CCDT Open Day in the Community Centre on Saturday Jan 27th between 11am and 4pm if you want to talk to us or find out more about our plans.

Below are suggestions for what our shelter could look like.
